    About Basin Buzz

I grew up in Tulelake. My family were homesteaders here, and even after I left for a while, the Basin pulled me back. The big sky, the refuges, the way you run into someone you know at the grocery store every single time. It's not for everyone, but it's home.

The problem was always the same: I'd find out about something great after it already happened. A live band at the Creamery, a wildflower walk out at the marsh, a community potluck in Merrill. It wasn't that nobody was posting about these things. They were just scattered across a dozen Facebook pages, buried under whatever the algorithm decided to show me that day. You never knew who to follow, and even if you followed everyone, half of it still slipped through.

I got tired of that. So I built Basin Buzz.

The idea is simple. One place where you can see everything that's happening in the Klamath Basin, updated daily, no algorithms deciding what you see and what you don't. Klamath Falls, Tulelake, Merrill, Malin, Bonanza, Chiloquin, and everywhere in between. If it's happening here, it should be easy to find.

    How it works

Basin Buzz is a free community event calendar for the Klamath Basin. I gather events from across the region, organize them in one place, and keep the listings updated daily. No app to download, no account to create. Just open the site and see what's coming up.

You can browse events by date, filter by category or town, and tap into any listing for the details: time, location, cost, and a link to the original source if there is one. If you want a weekly roundup delivered to your inbox every Monday morning, you can subscribe to the Basin Buzz digest. That's free too.

If you're hosting an event or know about one, you can submit it directly through the site. It takes about two minutes. I review every submission before it goes live to make sure the details are solid.

A basin worth showing up for

What makes this area special isn't any one thing. It's the combination. You've got Klamath Falls as the hub, with its brewpubs and playhouses and farmers markets. You've got the refuges, Upper Klamath and Tule Lake and Lava Beds, where the birding and the hiking are world-class and mostly uncrowded. You've got small towns like Merrill and Bonanza and Malin where a community potluck is still the best event of the month. And you've got Tulelake, my hometown, where the pace is slow and the sunsets over the lava beds are hard to beat.

There are rodeos at the Klamath County Fairgrounds, star parties at the OIT observatory, live music on Friday nights, trail runs through Moore Park, and craft fairs in towns small enough that the organizer knows every vendor by name. Most of these events are free or close to it. They just need someone paying attention and writing them down.

That's what Basin Buzz is. I hope it helps you find something worth showing up for.

    FAQs

    Is Basin Buzz free?

Yes, completely. Free to browse, free to submit events, free to subscribe to the digest. No paywalls, no premium tiers.

What area does Basin Buzz cover?

The Klamath Basin broadly: Klamath Falls, Tulelake, Merrill, Malin, Bonanza, Chiloquin, and the surrounding area including the national wildlife refuges and Lava Beds. If it's happening in the Basin, it belongs here.

How do I get my event listed?

Use the "Submit an event" button on the site. Fill in the basics and I'll review it and get it posted. If something needs clarifying I'll reach out.

Where do the event listings come from?

A mix. Some come from submissions, some I find through local organizations, venue pages, and community groups. I'm always looking for sources I might be missing, so if you know of one, let me know.

How often is the site updated?

Daily. I aim to have new events posted as soon as I find them or receive them.

Can I get a weekly email instead of checking the site?

Yes. The Basin Buzz Weekly Digest goes out every Monday morning with the best events for the week ahead. You can subscribe from any page on the site.
